Model Review: AH-64N Sea Apache

AH-64N Sea Apache

So did you know the USN almost had their own Apache well i was digging around and found this

So looking at the model which is a very good look at what the Sea Apache could have been if the US Navy had adopted it although I’d expected it was likely pitched to the US Marines but given the AH-1 Cobra was its competition and the Cobra was a proven design and cheaper to run.

While the model is very good below is what the 3rd proposal was

Model Review: Vickers Vanguard MR.1

UK’s P-3 Orion equivalent: https://preview.redd.it/ahjjpky6gxs51.jpg?width=319&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af0a81378712a8f227bcc287a924fac5adce8db9

The Vickers Vanguard MR.1 or the Vickers Type 955 Vanguard MR.1

a british maritime patrol aircraft that never got built for reasons I don’t fully know however from the model I have seen the detail in the model is amazing and I’m putting this plane into Strangereal as North Point’s Maritime Patrol plane and answer to Osea’s P-3 Orion and Yuketobania’s Il-38 May Maritime Patrol planes which serves as ASW and Maritime Patrol after the retirement of the Nimrod MR.1 in 2011 and will serve until P-8 Poseidon enters service to replace it.

Now as its Armament is unknown I to be creative but as there aren’t any external hardpoint all the weapons are internal which would have sixty Sonobouys and either six Mark.46 torpedoes or Mark.50 Barracuda torpedoes or Mark.54 torpedoes in its Anti-Submarine Warfare duties.

The Vanguard MR.1 can carry for Naval blockading Operations can carry twelve Mark.60 CAPTOR Sea Mines while in Anti-Surface Warfare can launch six AGM-84C Harpoon Anti-Ship Missiles or AGM-84K SLAM-ER Cruise missiles.

Now if this had been built I could possibly see a Vanguard R.3 which would be a Vanguard MR.2 converted to Signals intelligence for the Royal Air Force.

Vanguard MRA.4 is a Vanguard MR.2 airframe with four new 6200 horsepower AE2100J Turboprops

so what does it look like well’s here my description of that

a white topped and grey bottom Vanguard MR.1 that had a small observation position before the nose gear and the wing had four 5730 horsepower RB.109 Tyne mark.515 four bladed turboprops and a star safire 2 camera whilst the tail had an ESM module mounted on it and an magnetic anomaly detector fixed to the tail cone.

The Vanguard MR.2 is a Vanguard MR.1 airframe with newer avionics and Yellow Gate ESM pods mounted on the wingtips.

credit to the W879SP2 site for the picture as its an amazing model of an aircraft that never got built but should have been

Model Review: F-111K Merlin GR.1

What if I told there was a planned UK version of the F-111 Aardvark strike aircraft well here it is

UK F-111K Merlin GR.1: https://preview.redd.it/l52fy71rcm461.jpg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ae288feef19d8f6c648da6018d12c615d45a0be

After the cancellation of the BAC Tactical-Strike-Reconnaissance 2 aircraft the UK needed something to replace ageing English Electric Canberra Bombers in the interdictor role and fulfil the Tactical-Strike and Reconnaissance of the cancelled TSR-2, the F-111K used the F-111A and the wings of the F-111C, however the F-111K itself was cancelled for the similar reasons to the TSR 2 Economics and cost overruns, its intended role was eventually filled by the Avro Vulcan B Mk.2 and Blackburn Buccaneer S Mk.2.

The model looks very good however the F-111K had 9 pylons not 6 as the models showed.

Credit to W879SP2 for the awesome model

Model Review: UK’s SR-71s – The Avro 730 & English Electric P.10

I found these models of 2 British Mach 3 capable spy planes

The Avro 730 apparently called the Vigilant

Avro 730: https://preview.redd.it/jkthp5rss3d61.jpg?width=571&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1228b3cf1f73329515fb9e9bc57b20566ea46035

The Avro 730 was a proposed British supersonic reconnaissance and bomber aircraft designed in the 1950s with a crew of 3 and was powered by eight 9700ib Armstrong Siddeley P.176 Turbojets with afterburner totalling 77,600ibs in total which gave a cruising speed of Mach 2.5 and a max speed of Mach 3 with a range of 5754 miles and an altitude limit of 66,400 feet.

This aircraft is a weird one as it had only side windows and instead of a forward canopy there was a tv screen and two retractable periscopes (that is not a joke) as this aircraft may have the crew laying down on the job quite literally turns out the Avro 730 had side by side seats

sadly the plane was cancelled in 1959.

The UK’s 2nd equal to the SR.71 is the English Electric P.10

The English Electric P.10 was an alternative to the Avro 730 which was a Mach 3 Reconnaissance aircraft powered by 2 unknown turbojets in the wing-root and with what like 5 ramjets sadly it was considered too advanced and cancelled

These models look very good for Mach 3 reconnaissance planes to rival the US SR-71A Blackbird although it was probably a good idea to cancel them as they wouldn’t be have been ecomonic

So what do you think of these UK attempt to make an aircraft equal to the SR-71 Blackbirds but there were others but I couldn’t find enough information for them.

Model Review: F-4 Phantom 2 Variable Geometry Wing

If you think you’re seeing an F-4 with the wing of the F-14 Tomcat well

F-4 VGW: https://preview.redd.it/t4z40bjfdqb61.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=08d22b6ca49b4d1831279830232f64d8cbcdbbd7

Well You are and aren’t as this is the F-4 (SV) Phantom 2 an F-4 Phantom 2 airframe with variable geometry wing and there were 2 models planned a model based on the F-4J Phantom 2 for the US Navy and a model based on the UK F-4M Phantom FGR.2 or F-4M Phantom 2 from the Royal Air Force.

Sadly it was never built due to lack of interest from both the US Navy and RAF and the performance from F-14 Tomcat rendered it unneeded

So W879SP2’s model is very good and credit to the model maker for the very good models but as for this one the detail on the wing is very good as is the F-4J airframe which this one is

Model Review: Aerospatiale-BAC Concorde C.1

Concorde C.1

So if you think this is a product of a fantasy what if

Well not quite, it actually was proposed to the Royal Air Force with 3 options

The 1st was a Transport, the 2nd was a Supersonic Strike and 3rd was a Tactical Reconnaissance

The Concorde C.1 had it been build would probably have had 92-120 passengers and powered by four Rolls-Royce/Snecma Olympus 593 mk.610 turbojets with afterburner which had as 31,000ibs of dry thrust and 38,050ibs of thrust with afterburner.

Although it was never done as the subsonic jets can more people and further than the supersonic transport.

So unfortunately I can’t remember who created this model but looking at it I think its a very good model of an aircraft that might have made a very good VIP Transport.

The Royal Air Force Transport Command livery really looks very nice on the model as does the undercarriage that really looks good

The wing is very well done as its shape matches the Concorde wing quite nicely and honestly I’m surprised the military never went for but oh well

Model Review: A-12 Avenger 2

The A-12 Avenger 2 a cancelled carrier based stealth bomber

A-12: https://preview.redd.it/ruonz4kgeob61.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10f28bbf1f571a37c61dbaec1a9f92f5897029cf

The A-12 Avenger 2 was designed to replace older A-6 Intruders and used the same General Electric F414 powerplant used in the F-18s which was also suppose to be used in the A-6F Intruder 2 but due to multiple problems the aircraft was cancelled in 1991 and the subsequent legal fallout wasn’t resolved until 2014.

The A-12 Avenger 2 was to have four internal weapon bays with the outer having two AIM-120 AMRAAAM or AGM-88 HARMs while the outer bay was to have an unknown number of hardpoints (Yeah I’ve not been able to find out exactly how many hardpoints this aircraft was suppose to have) for Unguided Mark 82 LDGP munitions or laser guided GBU-10 Paveway 2 and probably later Satellite-guided GBU-38 JDAMs.

The model is quite well designed credit to W978SP2 for the awesome model as its looks very much like the concept art for this unbuilt aircraft which would have been interesting as no-one had tried to make an Aircraft Carrier based Stealth Fighter and frankly cancelling it was a damn shame

I find the Canopy design is quite interesting as I’d expected a single canopy design and the inlet are a unique design as the only over designs that use this inlet design are the V-Bomber jets

I wonder that with Ace Combat’s Strangereal’s advanced technology setting which has a 20-30 leap over us that the A-12 Avenger 2 entered operational use but would she still be active in 2020 strangereal honestly I doubt it but then again the obsolete F-117A Nighthawk was still active in 2019 with the Eruseans.

If the A-12 Avenger was ever used as a playable attacker in Ace Combat then it maybe would’ve had an internal cannon and missile in one of her internal bays and unknown number Air to Air Missile or the most likely choices for an attacker the Long-Range Air to Ground Missile & Unguided Bomb and Guided Penetration Bomb
