Model Review: Project 11780 Class Helicopter Carrier

The Project 11780 Kherson Helicopter Carrier

Equal to the USA’s Tarawa class Helicopter Carrier powered by a boiler and steam turbines generating 180,000 horsepower to give this ship a speed of 30 knots while cruising at 18 knots gives a range of 8000 miles.

Her planned armament was to be 1 or 2 130mm AK-130 Naval Guns, 8 Six-cell VLS for 48 3K95 Dagger Surface to Air missiles and 2 or 4 Kashtan CWIS

Capacity is up in the air she was apparently able to use the Kamov Ka-25 like the Ka-25BSH Hormone-A Anti-Submarine Warfare Helicopters but I think these are the more likely loadout

In the Anti-Submarine Warfare role she’d have had 25 Kamov Ka-27PL Helix-A Helicopters.

If the ship was configured for Amphibious Assault then she’d have 12 Kamov Ka-29TB Helix-B Assault Transport Helicopters and 4 Ondatra Class Landing Craft which would’ve had a capacity of 250 Soviet Marines as the ship was capable of carrying 1000 Soviet Marines and 2 Tsaplya-class Landing Craft Air Cushions aka Hovercraft or 50 Tanks likely a model of the PT-76 Amphibious Light Tank.

So what are your thoughts on this proposed Soviet Helicopter Carrier and I wonder what else the Soviets had planned and what to call this thing

So i think this model is interesting as its shows how good the soviet designers as its look like a ship designed to hunt and kill Submarines or land troops

Model Review: Convair XB-46

The Convair XB-46 a rival to the B-45 Tornado

The XB-46 was a competitor for the first US jet bomber powered by four 4000ib Allison J35-3 turbojets with two 12.7mm M2 Browning machine guns and a munition load of 22,000ibs.

It could fly as high as 40,000 feet and fly as far as 2870 miles with a cruise of 381 knots with its top being 474 knots and had a crew.

The Model is quite good for an aircraft that never got built

Model Review: Graf Zeppelin Class Aircraft Carrier

Something a little different today as I’m doing a ship

The German Graf Zeppelin Class Aircraft Carrier was one of the obscure WW2 Carriers

The Graf Zeppelin Class Aircraft Carrier was to have 43 Aircraft

The Graf Zeppelin’s air wing was to have BF109T-1 Fighters which would’ve had two nose mounted 7.92mm MG-17 machine guns with 2000 rounds and two wing mounted 7.92mm MG-17 machine guns with 1000 rounds and an external fuel tank.

The bombers would’ve been Ju-87C Stuka would’ve had two wing mounted 7.92mm MG-17 machine guns with 1000 rounds and a single rear turreted 7.92mm MG-15 machine guns with 900 rounds and a single 550ib SC250JA munition.

The Torpedo Bomber was to be the Fi-167A-0 with a single nose mounted 7.92mm MG-17 machine gun with 500 rounds and a single rear turreted 7.92mm MG-15 machine guns with 600 rounds

In her Torpedo strike, the Fi-167A would carry a single LT F5B Torpedo or in her bomber role the munition was to be a single 2200ib SC1000 or 1100ib SC500 or four 110ib SC50 Munitions.

The BF109T-1 had a range of 586 miles while the Ju-87C Stuka’s range was between 370 to 490 miles and the Fi-167A-0 had a range of 810 miles.

Her gun armament was eight 2-turret 5.9-Inch SK C/28 Naval Guns and 62 Anti-Aircraft Guns which would have consisted Twelve 4.1-inch SK C/33, Eleven 2-turret 1.5-Inch SK C/30 and Seven 4-turret 0.79-inch SK C/30 Anti-Aircraft Guns.

So the model for this unfinished Nazi aircraft carrier looks very good for German’s attempt at an Aircraft carrier even though the soviet stole it and sunk and its remains weren’t discovered until the early 21st century

Model Review: US Bomber models – YB-60 and XB-55

As we know the Tu-95 Bear-H exists but what if I told you there was an American equal, I present the Boeing XB-55

Video unfortunately why I do not know

If you think you’re seeing a Turboprop B-47 Stratojet well yeah the XB-55 was to take a similar B-47 Airframe with less sweep on its wings and four Allison T40-2 Turboprops with three-bladed contra rotating props producing 5600 Horsepower each and was suppose to have ten 20mm M24A1 autocannons with presumably 8000 rounds of ammo and a bomb load of 24,000ib but it was cancelled due to a number of factors

but I’d expect if it was that there probably would have been changes at some point during development and likely would’ve had eight of the ten 20mm M24A1 autocannons being deleted and the 5600 horsepower T40-2 Turboprops being replaced with four Pratt and Whitney T57-1 Turboprops which produced 15,000 horsepower but who knows

The Convair YB-60 or the B-36 Peacemaker with jet engines

The idea was sound however poor performance doomed it and it was based on old 1940s tech so it didn’t stand a chance against the B-52

YB-60: https://preview.redd.it/597aaqek1i761.jpg?width=899&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4008d29152facda5bbf064464ad28f1d95de4446

So both this models look pretty good for unbuilt bombers of which the XB-55 should have been proceeded with

Model Review: AH-64N Sea Apache

AH-64N Sea Apache

So did you know the USN almost had their own Apache well i was digging around and found this

So looking at the model which is a very good look at what the Sea Apache could have been if the US Navy had adopted it although I’d expected it was likely pitched to the US Marines but given the AH-1 Cobra was its competition and the Cobra was a proven design and cheaper to run.

While the model is very good below is what the 3rd proposal was

Model Review: Vickers Vanguard MR.1

UK’s P-3 Orion equivalent: https://preview.redd.it/ahjjpky6gxs51.jpg?width=319&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af0a81378712a8f227bcc287a924fac5adce8db9

The Vickers Vanguard MR.1 or the Vickers Type 955 Vanguard MR.1

a british maritime patrol aircraft that never got built for reasons I don’t fully know however from the model I have seen the detail in the model is amazing and I’m putting this plane into Strangereal as North Point’s Maritime Patrol plane and answer to Osea’s P-3 Orion and Yuketobania’s Il-38 May Maritime Patrol planes which serves as ASW and Maritime Patrol after the retirement of the Nimrod MR.1 in 2011 and will serve until P-8 Poseidon enters service to replace it.

Now as its Armament is unknown I to be creative but as there aren’t any external hardpoint all the weapons are internal which would have sixty Sonobouys and either six Mark.46 torpedoes or Mark.50 Barracuda torpedoes or Mark.54 torpedoes in its Anti-Submarine Warfare duties.

The Vanguard MR.1 can carry for Naval blockading Operations can carry twelve Mark.60 CAPTOR Sea Mines while in Anti-Surface Warfare can launch six AGM-84C Harpoon Anti-Ship Missiles or AGM-84K SLAM-ER Cruise missiles.

Now if this had been built I could possibly see a Vanguard R.3 which would be a Vanguard MR.2 converted to Signals intelligence for the Royal Air Force.

Vanguard MRA.4 is a Vanguard MR.2 airframe with four new 6200 horsepower AE2100J Turboprops

so what does it look like well’s here my description of that

a white topped and grey bottom Vanguard MR.1 that had a small observation position before the nose gear and the wing had four 5730 horsepower RB.109 Tyne mark.515 four bladed turboprops and a star safire 2 camera whilst the tail had an ESM module mounted on it and an magnetic anomaly detector fixed to the tail cone.

The Vanguard MR.2 is a Vanguard MR.1 airframe with newer avionics and Yellow Gate ESM pods mounted on the wingtips.

credit to the W879SP2 site for the picture as its an amazing model of an aircraft that never got built but should have been

Model Review: F-111K Merlin GR.1

What if I told there was a planned UK version of the F-111 Aardvark strike aircraft well here it is

UK F-111K Merlin GR.1: https://preview.redd.it/l52fy71rcm461.jpg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ae288feef19d8f6c648da6018d12c615d45a0be

After the cancellation of the BAC Tactical-Strike-Reconnaissance 2 aircraft the UK needed something to replace ageing English Electric Canberra Bombers in the interdictor role and fulfil the Tactical-Strike and Reconnaissance of the cancelled TSR-2, the F-111K used the F-111A and the wings of the F-111C, however the F-111K itself was cancelled for the similar reasons to the TSR 2 Economics and cost overruns, its intended role was eventually filled by the Avro Vulcan B Mk.2 and Blackburn Buccaneer S Mk.2.

The model looks very good however the F-111K had 9 pylons not 6 as the models showed.
