Winx club has returned after nearly 4 years off the air with season 8 but will season 8’s premiere shine like a supernova or fizzle into a black hole time to find out *Warning this review contains spoilers*

The episode begins with students of alfea and the winx watching a meteor shower when Twinky who was being chased by a strange blob like creature crashes into the forest where the winx discover her in a crater but Stella identifies her as lumen telling the girls a bit about what a lumen is but a small figure with hundreds of of small blob creatures complains that Twinkey had managed to reach the Winx

At Alfea
The girls and Faragonda observe Twinkey resting after her crash but Stella mentions that lumens come from lumena which is one of the 2 stars in orbit around Solaria but are left wondering why Twinky left lumenia and came to Alfea

the next morning
Twinky wakes up but gets startled by kiko and tries to hit him with books which gets Bloom and Flora’s attention but despite trying to hide in jasmine which doesn’t work when in her panic she crashes into Stella knocking her against a door but Stella reassures her that they are her friends but after Stella tells Twinky that they are the winx but when they ask for twinky’s name and why she came to Alfea she says she can’t remember but Aisha suggest they try to scare her memory back with Bloom trying a jumpscare with a paperbag on her head, Aisha tried popping something, kiko tries with a mallet but none of them work, Flora reassures her that they will find a way to restore her memory but Bloom’s phone goes off telling her that the specialists are coming but they arrive in a new ship but after Brandon has given Stella her presents and Helia gives Flora a picture of a rose form a planet, Tecna and Timmy try to use technology to restore Twinky’s memory but that blows up in their faces but they try again which shows that Twinky was being chased by strange blob creatures but the memories make twinky panic which destroys the memory reading machine.

In Alfea’s courtyard

The Winx discuss what they know while Kiko tries flowers which doesn’t but Stella suggest they try music while

at Red fountain
The specialists discuss recent events and a mission they went on and make banter at each other when Riven walked into the room telling them that codatorta let him rejoin the team

In Alfea’s courtyard at night
Knut and Kiko are moving a light while the Winx walk on the stage unveiling their instruments and performing a song when a portal opens up with hundreds of of small blob creatures emerging form it that makes Twinkly’s memory return but everyone watches as the staryummies form into a monster that Faragonda stops the starchomper with a barrier while the winx transform into Butterflix but none of their spells work except for Stella’s light magic so they charge up Twinkey who destroys the starchomper and the staryummies quickly retreat

In Faragonda’s office
Twinkly reveals that she was sent by the lumenia queen to get a distress call out to the winx and reveals that the stars are in danger but unfortunately doesn’t have all the answers they need but Faragonda asks if they are ready for this mission which Bloom says they are but she tells them to be cautious but Stella remarks that caution is their middle name most of the time but Bloom walks over to window staring out towards the night sky

The episode ends with Bloom telling the other winx what their plan is

Things I noticed

• Kiko looks so cute in the new animation style 😍
• Butterflix doesn’t work in the new style but at least the dance sequence is gone 😞
• The winx’s new civilian clothes are nice designs 😊
• The Winx are still Students at Alfea ugh seriously 😞
• ‘she does have a memory lapse’ seriously Twinky crashed into a forest at the speed of light 😑
• honestly their methods are more funny that scary 🤣
• the specialists look awful in the new animation style and their outfits look tasteless 😞
• wait why were the specialists in omega 🤔
• I like the new ship but where did they get it and what happened to the older ship design for earlier seasons 🤔
• Planet Iris 😕 is that a place we will see or something
• ‘a memory reading machine’ seriously 😑
• Planet hipsoes what the hell have the specialists been doing 🤔
• wait why did riven decide to rejoin the specialists 🤔
• wait where is Daphne, Roxy and Thoren 🤔
• Appearances can be deceptive Stella those creatures are definitely not harmless

Overall thoughts
So overall I thought the episode well I enjoyed it, the animation is good and the story was nice setup for the season, the new voice actors for some of the cast like the new va for Bloom and Musa did very good job especially the new va for Bloom who really gave a good performance in her first outing as Bloom she had sense of maturity like what I heard form the va for bloom from season 7 and the comedy was very good and did make me smile and kiko is so cute in the season 8 style but the animation style is what let the episode down since I feel doesn’t work for all the characters however I do understand why they changed and I have no problem with that but it needs improvement since the specialists looked awful in the new design and their outfits looked like power ranger outfit design that would have been rejected by the costume department, the unanswered questions about the ship cause of its new design, where Daphne, Thoren and Roxy were but the star yummies looked unique and very creative however they could have been shown to do more damage since the starchomper was able to tank most of the Winx’s butterflix attacks and able to use portals creatively in attack avoidance
